KLM Flight Delay Compensation 2026 — Claim Up to €600
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (IATA: KL) is the Netherlands' flag carrier and Europe's oldest airline still operating under its original name. As a Dutch EU-registered carrier, EU Regulation 261/2004 applies to all KLM flights worldwide — in both directions. Amsterdam–New York on KLM? Covered. New York–Amsterdam on KLM? Also covered. You may be owed up to €600 per person for a delay of 3+ hours.
🔁 KLM is an EU carrier — both directions covered
Unlike US carriers (Delta, United, American) where EU261 only applies for EU departures, KLM is Dutch-registered. EU261 applies to all KLM-operated flights globally. Note: if your flight has a KLM flight number but is operated by Delta under a codeshare, check whether the operating carrier is KLM on your boarding pass.
KLM EU261 compensation amounts

KLM denial tactics to know
- →"Technical defect" as extraordinary circumstances — not accepted by courts; technical issues are the airline's operational responsibility
- →Offering Flying Blue miles instead of cash — you are entitled to €250/400/600 in cash under EU261
- →Confusion between KLM flights and Delta codeshare operations — check your boarding pass for the operating carrier (KL = KLM, DL = Delta)
- →Claiming the delay was under 3h at departure — EU261 measures arrival delay, not departure delay
- →Air France-KLM group passengers: if you booked through Air France but flew on KLM metal, KLM is the liable operating carrier
