TAROM Flight Delayed or Cancelled? Claim EU261 Compensation Up to €400
TAROM (IATA: RO) is Romania's national airline, operating from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP). Romania joined the EU in 2007, making TAROM a full EU carrier subject to EU Regulation 261/2004. If your TAROM flight was delayed 3+ hours, cancelled, or you were denied boarding, you are entitled to fixed cash compensation.
🇷🇴 Romania: 3-year claim window
Under Romania's New Civil Code, the general statute of limitations for contractual claims is 3 years. A delayed Bucharest departure from 2023 is still claimable today in 2026. For flights departing from other EU countries, that country's SOL applies.

TAROM route network: what distance am I flying?
TAROM operates primarily short and medium-haul routes across Europe and the Middle East. Most routes from Bucharest fall in the €400 bracket (1,500–3,500 km) — London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Rome, Brussels, Madrid. Shorter routes to neighbouring countries (Vienna, Budapest, Istanbul, Sofia) fall in the €250 bracket. TAROM does not regularly operate ultra-long-haul routes that would trigger the €600 tier.
How to claim TAROM EU261 compensation
- 1

Escalate to AACR (Romanian Civil Aviation Authority)
The Autoritatea Aeronautică Civilă Română (AACR) is Romania's national EU261 enforcement body. If TAROM rejects or ignores your claim after 30 days, file a complaint with AACR — the process is free.

TAROM denial tactics to watch for
- →"Technical fault" as extraordinary circumstances — aircraft technical issues are NOT extraordinary under EU261; courts consistently reject this defence across Europe
- →Slow or no response — TAROM customer service can be slow; escalate to AACR if no meaningful reply after 30 days
- →Claiming the delay was below 3 hours — measure at final destination gate, not departure time
- →Offering travel credit instead of cash — EU261 entitles you to cash payment
- →SkyTeam codeshares — if your TAROM ticket was operated under a codeshare, claim against the operating carrier (RO if TAROM operated the flight)
