How to Cancel (Deactivate) Shopify

Shopify Basic ($39/month), Shopify ($105/month), and Advanced ($399/month) all auto-renew. To stop billing, you need to deactivate your store. Shopify also offers a Pause & Build plan ($9/month) if you want to keep your store but stop selling.

⚠️ Export your data BEFORE deactivating

Once your store is deactivated, you lose access to your Shopify Admin. Export all data first: Shopify Admin → Settings → Export. Download products, orders, customers, and financials separately.

💡 Consider Pause & Build instead ($9/month)

The Pause & Build plan keeps your store data, your storefront (customers can browse), and your SEO — but disables checkout. Much cheaper than a paid plan, and you can resume selling at any time without setting up from scratch.

Deactivate (cancel) your Shopify store

  1. 1

    Export your store data

In your Shopify Admin, go to Settings → click "Export" next to the data types you want to save: Products, Orders, Customers. Also go to Analytics → Finances → Export financial reports.

  2. 2

    Go to Settings → Plan

In your Shopify Admin left sidebar, click "Settings" (bottom left gear icon), then click "Plan".

  3. 3

    Click "Deactivate store" → Confirm

On the Plan page, click "Deactivate store" at the bottom. Enter your password when prompted, choose a cancellation reason, and click "Deactivate store" to confirm.
